Day 8 - 244 words for a total of 11,984. I’m behind again and will likely stay that way until at least Wednesday with the four-day school weekend. Over the next three days, I’ll be happy to keep up an even pace and not dig myself into a deeper hole. I’m starting to worry a little that I’ve been too bare-bones and am going to run out of plot before I hit 50,000 words. We’ll see.
Day 9 - 1740 words for a total of 13,733. I can feel the pacing picking up, feel pieces falling into place like tumblers in a lock. This is the first time I remember writing a novel that felt like a novel and not a long short story or, worse, just a jumbled bag of words. It’s still early days. I know the melancholy pit of week three is still to come, but so far, so good.
